The Last Kingdom is inspired by Bernard Cornwell’s book series called The Saxon Stories. So far, the show has covered the first ten books in five seasons. This means that Dreymon and many other seasons five cast members will likely appear in the film since it takes place after season five.

At MCM London Comic-Con, Nigel Marchant said the fifth season would be the series finale. He said, “There was always one more story we wanted to tell,” but with Netflix’s support and fans’ desire to see more content, they decided to make one last season. You can rest easy knowing that Uhtred of Bebbanburg’s journey to reunite kingdoms isn’t over before you bang your fists on the table. Fans may anticipate Seven Kings Must Die, a Netflix movie covering the tale’s final three books.

In a Radio Times interview, the executive producer, Nigel Marchant, stated, “The fifth season of the television show does seem like the finale, and the movie will be much more of a standalone. Fans of the TV show will especially enjoy it, but you can watch it even if you’ve never watched the program.”

Season 5 appears to close with everything resolved, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Uhtred is now moving closer to realizing his father’s ambition of uniting England after the war for Bebbanburg is over. The Saxon Stories’ last three volumes will be brought to life for viewers, as planned. Things are far from over for Uhtred’s journey with a furious king and a burgeoning family.

    • Everytime they get really good, they end them. All of the best movies, series, etc, always end when they are in their Highest point.

  3. There is So very much more that could be told. We enjoy having it viewed in seasons instead of a movie. We become a part of what we are watching, we get scared with them. Cry with them, hold our breath, and cheer with them. There is so many shows on that has 12-14 Seasons, why can’t the Last Kingdom be like those? I know there has to be So much more to tell, so much more happened and we want to know, we want to watch. Please give us what we ask for, the history is so Important to learn and very intriguing to watch. I thank Netflix for airing it, but give us more, there is too many ridiculous shows on that has 15-20 season that teach us nothing. This show has grown on us and I speak for so many. I hope that you change your mind and continue the season. You have many loyal Fans waiting to see what happens next.

  6. Just got done binging the entire story. So good that sometimes I didn’t go to sleep until 4:00 a.m.
As a descendant of Vikings, I felt like I was part of the story, although I would have only been a peasant warrior and certainly would not have lived as I did to reach 76. I just finished my first draft of a 87,000 word autobiography, and was proud to include my heritage. ALWAYS MEDICATED NEVER HEALED The Life and Times of a Bipolar Teacher.

  7. I absolutely LOVE the story/show. It’s very addictive. I’ve done watched the whole series/story more than once. I can’t believe that it’s ending. There is so much more that could be told. I laughed, I cried, I held my breath with them. I swear every series/show I really get into and love they always end up only having just a few seasons. It drives me crazy! There are so many dumb shows that have like 15-20 (if not more) seasons, why can’t The Last Kingdom be like them and have MORE seasons. It’s a very good, interesting, entertaining, and all around just absolutely a GREAT show. I mean it’s just not right. It has so many fans and viewers why would are y’all gonna take it away from us just like that?. Heart breaking ???? There are so many ppl that love the show and wanting more. PLEASE change your mind and give us more. Can’t wait to watch the movie but why not continue it in seasons?. It’s also just gonna have us all wanting more so come on plz continue the series and give us many more seasons. As popular as it is and with so much more that could/should be told, I can’t believe y’all are just gonna end it. We really hope that y’all change your minds about ending it.

  9. This series made me feel so many emotions, happiness, sadness, broken hearted, triumph and defeat! I admired Uhtred’s spirit of compassion and knowing right and wrong. He was the fiercest of warriors, but he never bullied or killed unless it was warranted. Yet he had much Dane in him. He loved his Dane father and learned how to fight from him. I became attached to not just the Uhtred character, but many of the people in his life. I really thought the relationship between Uhtred and Father Bioorca was wonderful! Spanning several decades and stages of life. And Uhtred’s unrequited love for Lady Aethelfled. I felt real emotional pain when she died. It takes a great plot and great acting to extract that type of reaction! The actress playing Lady Aethelfled really had a regal air about her. And a beauty that only a true queen could possess. Uhtred’s relationship with Brida, going from a childhood friendship to a romantic love and eventually evolving into a love/hate bond. I became attracted to all the characters! Some I hated and some I loved. Uhtred had such an eclectic group of friends and acquaintances. From kings to bloodthirsty villains. I guess it’s obvious that I loved The Last Kingdom. I would also love it if you brilliant people would make a sixth season! Please, I think there are many more battles and negotiations for Uhtred to participate in. Thank you for giving us the first five seasons!

The last kingdom is a majestic show and yes the movie is 2 hours long but there is so so so so much more that you could go off from to create more seasons for the fans. I absolutely love the last kingdom and all the characters I love the story line. As others said before me, the show makes you feel connected, you feel all the emotions all the pain all the suffering and happiness, joy ,hate ,every darn emotion you could think of. as I watch this show it makes me feel like I am truly there , as a welsh descendant my self it was amazing going on this journey with Uhtred and I do not want this show to end ever. The last kind is By far one of the best shows ever made in history and quit literally made about history in my opinion . Please please please please continue on do not stop with the movie.
